Metro_POLIS studio was created in 2007 and is registered in Albania as an independent l.t.d. focused on architecture and urban & landscape design. Since its establishment Metro_POLIS attached to the Research & Development Institute of POLIS University, as a strategic but autonomous partner with its own offices located in the same campus of the University. Such strong research-based structure was further complemented and strengthened by the additional practice-based entity Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development, a highly reputable professional NGO with regional impact dealing with issues of urban planning and governance. All together the POLIS Research & Development Institute, Metro_POLIS studio and Co_PLAN Institute create a strong and unique regional pool of expertise. The main objective of Metro_POLIS is to identify and implement concrete architectural, urban and engineering projects, in cooperation with its own local and international strategic partners of applied research and consultancy services of architecture and urban development. Metro_POLIS develops also contemporary design research, with main focus in the Balkan region and Mediterranean basins. The Studio assembles a rich menu of sub-specializations from complementary disciplines of architecture and urban/landscape design. Throughout intelligent processes of hybridization, the capacity of Metro_POLIS is continuously enriched by new points of view and creative technologies, referring to the always-changing surrounding environments. The intelligent blend of the private, NGO and academic capacities creates a combination that permits exploration of alternative solutions to the present needs or of the territory. Metro_POLIS philosophy reflects the latest and most avant-garde trends, thus developing the architectural idea which places a great deal of importance on man and society through a continuous dialogue between nature and built environment.
